In 1529 a quarrel arose between Devereux's men and those of Rhys. Rhys was accused of plotting with the King of
Scots to make himself ruler of Wales. Part of the evidence against him was that he had sought to stress his links with the
ancient Welsh kings but adopting the name Fitzurien. He was executed in 1531 and much of his land passed to Walter
Devereux.
