Alan was named in the Magna Charta, 1215. He was Constable of Scotland. He inherited from his mother large estates of the
DeMorevilles and the hereditary office of High Constable of Scotland which his father had held after the death of William de
Moreville, Ela's only brother. His eldest daughter carried the inheritance to the De Quinceys. {See "Family Records of the Bruce
