Misc. Notes

She was raised in Smithfield, Ohio by her aunt Mrs Susie (Susannah) Moore and is listed as living with them in the 1860 census (but not the one for 1870). Emma graduated from Hiram Hadley Academy. She painted and wrote essays for Harpers Magazine (until she married Joseph). The latter is from the family grapevine. However, she must not have done this for too long as she wasn’t that old when she married.

She is listed in the 1860 census (Ohio > Jefferson > Smithfield > 41) as living with Nathaniel and Susanna Moore and their adult children (Sara, 29, Ambrose, 27, and Ruth, 26). Note the parents were born in Virginia, and all of the kids were born in Ohio.

She is listed in the 1900 census (Indiana > Jay > Noble > District 63 > 12) as living with husband and three adult children.

She is listed in the 1910 census (Indiana > Jay > Noble > District 0069 > 6) as living with husband.
