Workshop on Laser Ablation and Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) for Geological and Forensic Analyses

Applied Spectra, Inc., in cooperation with the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, are pleased to announce a two-day workshop on Laser Ablation (LA) and Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) for for Geochemistry, Forensic Science and Life Science applications. Topics will include fundamentals and applications of Laser Ablation, product overviews, and a hands-on demonstration of the J200 Tandem LA-LIBS.

Day 1 Topics will include:

  • Presenatations by Applied Spectra and invited speakers on the fundamentals of of Laser Ablation ICP-MS and Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS)

    • Dr. Darby Dyar, Mount Holyoke College, "Lessons Learned about LIBS Calibration from ChemCam"

    • Dr. Jacob Shelley, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, “Towards Simultaneous Elemental and Molecular Chemical Imaging Through Optical and Mass Spectrometries”

  • Overview of Laser Ablation Applications for Geochemistry, Forensic Science, and the Life Sciences

  • Applied Spectra product overviews

  • Hands on demonstration of the J200 Tandem LA-LIBS system housed at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
    Note:
    Only LIBS will be demonstrated during this workshop as there is no ICP-MS on site.

Day 2 (optional) will include:

  • Live analysis of participant-supplied samples on the Applied Spectra J200™ Tandem LA-LIBS system
