MATH1020 Calculus II Gateway Lab
Section 1-4 Thursday, September 16, 1999.

For lab this week, you are going to learn how to take the Gateway Exam. Hopefully, there will also be time in the lab session to take a proctored exam. If there is not time to take a proctored exam, you will still be able to explore the system and take practice exams.

The exam is taken while you sit at a computer. You will need to use an internet browser; you should use Netscape, because there are various options that need to be configured if you use Internet Explorer (and the proctors do not know how to configure these options).

Setting up a student account

The first time you take a proctored gateway exam, you need to set up a student account on the gateway system. This requires the following steps:

1.
Open Netscape.
2.
Type in the following URL:
http://amos.math.rpi.edu/gateway
3.
Click once on ``User Record''.
4.
Fill in all spaces with proper information. Please note that in order for your tests to be graded properly, you must enter your RCS User ID as your Login name, and use your RCS email account. When you are finished, click once on the ``Press to Continue'' button.
5.
Confirm the data entered and click once on the button labeled either ``Yes'' or ``No''. You now have a student gateway account.

Taking a Proctored Exam

Once you've set up a student account, you can take a Proctored Exam. This involves the following steps:

1.
Open Netscape.
2.
Type in the following URL:
http://amos.math.rpi.edu/gateway
3.
Click once on ``Proctored Test''.
4.
Read the ``Rules Regarding Gateway Exams'' and accept them if you would like to take a proctored gateway test.
5.
Enter your Login Name (RCS User ID) and Password, select the ``Calculus II Gateway Exam'', and click once on ``Press to Login''.
6.
Notify your proctor that you are ready to be authorized to take a proctored gateway exam. The proctor will do this remotely from his/her computer and let you know once you are authorized. You must then select Method 2, to proceed to a test.
7.
When you are finished and you would like your test graded, notify the proctor, who will let you know when grading has been authorized. Again select Method 2. Your score is now recorded.
8.
Shut down Netscape.
