NameGodfrey (The Bearded) Duke of Lorraine
Birthabt 1006
Death24 Dec 1069
Misc. Notes
Godfrey is represented in the legend of the Swan Knight - see Wolfram von Eschenbach's "Parzifal" and the somewhat
different French "chanson de geste" (cf. "Lohengrin"). The House of Boulogne continues to use the swan in their heraldic
device. Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1956, 14:337: "The house of Bouillon was not alone in claiming the knight as an
ancestor, and the tradition probably originally belonged to the house of Cleves."
