This research seminar focuses on issues in the study of dynamic decision-making and emotion. What may initially appear to be two separate topics on closer inspection are revealed as inextricably intertwined aspects of the human integrated cognitive system. In sorting through the modern theories and evidence we will come face to face with basic issues in control of cognition and the issue of optimality or the lack thereof in our cognitive processes.
We will revisit a handful of key papers and controversies that helped to
define and frame our current debates. However, 30 of the 48 papers we
will read were published in 2000 or later with 12 having been published
in the last two years (2003 or 2004 or in press).
