Project Description:This project aims to determine the normal specific impedance of a material based on an inverse finite element method formulation. The method approximately solves a steady-state problem (the Helmholtz equation with mixed boundary conditions) by discretizating the volume, determining a node to node influence matrix and solving for the pressures at nodes of the discretization such that they minimize least square error. The inverse formulation involves an iterative optimization process to best fit data gathered at particular microphone locations. Assuming the room to be a linear time invariant system, the convolution theorem may be used to provide a transient response. |
